The final season of The Bear landed this week, a show I love for a whole host of reasons that I won't get into now, but on Friday evening I sat down to watch the first couple of episodes... and by 2am I was starting the final episode of the series.
There are big reasons and small reasons I think The Bear is superb, and one of the smaller ones is the music. The soundtrack in every season is so good, and for this week's song I actually wanted to pick the track that works almost like a recurring motif through the final season, and it amplifies the drama on screen. That's one of the things great music does: sometimes it's front and centre, energising a scene; other times it's sitting in the background but still doing adding so so much.
The song I had in mind does exactly that. Used alongside the images, it gives them more weight and becomes more emotive because of it. But when I listened back to it outside the show, it just didn't hit the same, so I decided against using it as this week’s choice. Instead, I'm going with another song from across the show's five seasons.
