Somewhere I wanted to be, somewhere I probably needed to be, and somewhere I ended up. And where I’ve ended up is a place I haven’t been to for 20 years. Honestly, it’s one of those places I never imagined returning to. Not because I didn’t enjoy it, far from it, but the world’s a big place and there’s a lot to experience.
So here I am, back in Amritsar. Last time I was a backpacker, here to see the Golden Temple, and on the way I discovered one of my favourite border crossings when I crossed from Pakistan.
Now I’m here with my business partner, Jose, to coach padel. The club owner, Savar, is a serious foodie and has taken it upon himself to give us the full Amritsar treatment… who are we to argue! It is something I am very much looking forward to!
On our first night Savar set the bar high with, without doubt, the best keema naan I’ve ever had. Jose’s introduction to Indian food is going to be quite something if that is the benchmark of what is to follow.
Over dinner the conversation wandered to family and I took the chance to introduce Nightingale Music and asked Savar for a couple of Punjabi recommendations, one classic and one modern. We are, after all, in Punjab.
