This week’s choice actually comes via King Charles III. I stumbled across a radio show he did for Apple Music where he picked some of his favourite songs. Some I really believe are his, others I suspect… less so. I’m going to go out on a limb and say Miriam Makeba was one of his genuine picks, and she’s been a potential pick for this list for a while. The King chose “Qongqothwane,” partly, he said, because English speakers can’t pronounce it — we just call it the “Click Song” because that’s what it sounds like when you say it. In my non-royal opinion it’s a good choice, but she has many superior songs, and choosing one is a challenge… I change my choice twice as I was writing these words!
